Now that my daughter is doing more swimming training on her own while she decides the next move, we’re having to do research into how best to help her train. The technology over these last several years has improved greatly and there are many tools a swimmer can put in their equipment bag to help get the most out of a practice session. In Anna’s equipment bag right now are:
- Hydro Tech 2 fins — this are very comfortable to wear and don’t cause the blisters like other popular fins
- kickboard
- Finis Freestyle snorkle — helps when working on hand and body position
- pull buoy
- water bottle
- Tyr Catalyst Paddle
I’ve been watching instructional videos from GoSwim and I’ve learned about some interesting products that we’ll get in and try out. The first is the Finis Tempo Trainer.
The reviews I’ve read on this product are excellent and the concept makes sense. The idea is to get the swimmer into a rhythm while training with goals in mind. For my daughter, there should be a payoff on this product as she has a tendency to drop her stroke rate in the middle section of the pool while racing. Her entry into the turns are fast as are the exits from the turn. It’s that middle that tends to be her downfall. The Tempo Trainer is cheap enough that it’s worth trying out.
The next product I’m considering is the Finish Freestyler hand paddles.
This product looks like the right idea again to help put the hands into the right position. The reviews are generally positive on this product and it should just be another tool in that equipment bag. Time will tell if this is the right product for my daughter.
