You’d think that we all know a dog’s wisdom particularly as it relates to life. You know the routine — eat, drink, sleep, relieve and repeat. There seems to be more though when it comes to these highly intelligent creatures. There truly is a lot to learn from a dog. The problem I’m having is putting that wisdom into words and if you know me, I’m rarely at a loss for words.
- Kick back, relax and sniff the air. Now that the long winter month’s are over, Dev enjoys just sitting on the back deck and looking around. Nothing big. No rush. Just sniffing the air from time to time. We always hear that we should take the time to “smell the roses” but it’s more than that. Life is finite whether it’s for 1 year, 10 years or even 100 years and sometimes we just need the little reminder that we should enjoy every single minute of it. Even if it’s just sniffing the air around us.
- No matter how short, every car ride is the best. Dev’s a funny guy. As soon as he hears the car keys come out of the drawer, he comes running as fast as he can. There is no way he will let you out of the house without knowing that he wants to come along for the ride. Dev is happy regardless of length of the car ride and he often begs to come along even when I’m just moving the car from the driveway into the garage (about 15 feet / 4-5 metres). He gladly hops into his seat, looks around and then settles in for the less than 30 second ride. We should all look forward to those short car rides in life with such glee.
- Let’s be friends! It (generally) doesn’t matter who Dev sees whether human or animal, he just wants to be friends. Now I don’t recommend the doggie method of greeting new and old friends — we humans tend to get offended if someone wants to sniff our butt :-D But seriously, scientists have shown that social relationships are key to longevity.
