A Little About Me

I've been writing software for over 25 years now in a variety of languages. My experience runs the gamut but is mostly rooted in UNIX-based platforms. More recently, I've taken up implementing websites using modern CMS systems such as WordPress and Drupal. I write plugins, style extensively with CSS, and fix bugs. My personal interests include photography, competitive swimming, agility training, and of course -- my dog!

My Love Hate Relationship with a Phone

I’m often amazed at my friends who get new phones so often. It seems like such a waste of time and money to be constantly changing. Now that I’m into hour 3 of trying to get my Samsung Galaxy S3 to connect to a PC to back it up, I’m now thinking that they are on to something. Seriously Samsung — you made a ton of money off my phone, couldn’t you have at least put a modicum of effort into the software that *supposedly* connects my phone to a computer? To make matters worse, I’m actually on an iMac and the Kies software is even worse! OK rant over and time to go back to troubleshooting.

Part 2: We’ll file this is the *doh* column. So many devices take the same USB cable and I must have a couple dozen lying around. The answer to all of my problems were to 1) download and install the latest version of Kies on my Mac and 2) USE THE ORIGINAL USB CABLE THAT CAME WITH THE PHONE. All caps shouting added for emphasis.
